Mt. Sodom at the Dead Sea, Israel, is almost completely formed of halite, or salt rock. The geological process that created Mt. Sodom is called "diapir", where overlying layers of sediment "squeeze" the salt layer through passages to the surface. Thus every year Mt. Sodom rises by 3.5mm.
