Is an inexpensive lens "good enough"? Tamron 75-300mm vs Nikon 80-200 F2.8 zooms

The Nikon 80-200mm f2.8 zoom may be one of the best and sharpest ever made. It is also very heavy. So I decided to buy a Tamron 75-300 f4-5.6 LD that I saw advertised as "like new" on Ebay. Cost: $52.

For most purposes, hand-held, the differences may not be important. These were shot on a tripod, to maximize differences that would be masked by the tiniest camera shake.
