Cut by shovel by just a few project participants, the long trench at the swamp near the Rio Hondo was dug to expose possible ancient raised and/or drained growing fields.

The conclusions are sketchy, as deep organic layers were not found, just undulations that appear to have been cut during ancient occupation.
