The bird to the left of the 2 Semi Sands caused quite a bit of talking back and forth between Jeff and I.
These images are somewhat backlit, and don't do the color of the bird justice. It was obviously reddish-orange, every bit as bright as the average Western. When I 1st saw it, I called it a Western at a glance, but after looking a 2nd-time thought, maybe it's the brightest Semi I've ever seen. It is a tough bird, but Jeff stuck with Western right off the bat. It is a tiny billed little male bird. The crown and auriculars were very bright, as were some of the scaps and a tertial. The clincher is that the bases of the scaps we could see, especially one big lower scap, was red, not just the fringe like on some Semipalmated.
