I drove hard from Lake Marian up to St. Cloud. East Lake Tohopekaliga is where we had our best look at Snail Kites several years ago, and is still reliable for them. I looked all over this big lake, and was about to leave to try and get to St. Petersburg before dark when I noticed 3 dark raptors lazily coming my direction over the lake. I thought "they can't be", but sure enough, I had 2 male and a female Snail Kite. I spent the next few minutes watching them soar around and interact with each other. It's the 1st time I've seen Snail Kites over probably about 20 feet over the marsh.
