I had no problem finding several of these big gallinules at the mitigation lake by Southwest Regional Library at Pembroke Pines. There were at least two pairs of these birds on this lake.
These are very recent additions to the Florida avifauna, 1st noticed in 1996. They seem to have become established around Pembroke Pines, and I believe some surrounding areas. There is concern over what impact they could have on native birds, as their diet includes the young of other marsh birds.
