White-headed Woodpecker

San Jacinto Mountains; CA

We bombed out in the mountains, with the exception of our trip up the aerial tramway out of Palm Springs. We left the desert floor, and 15 minutes later were just short of 9000 feet elevation.

This male was one of at least three White-headed Woodpeckers we found in short order, along with a pair of Williamson's Sapsuckers, Cassin's Finch, and Red Crossbills.
