Lesser Nighthawk

Santa Ana NWR, TX

I have no prior experience with Lesser Nighthawk. It has been noted that the large black splotches on the scaps aren't typical of Lesser. To me, the placement of the white primary bar, past the end of the tertials, along with the straight rear edge, looks good for Lesser. They show up better in another photo, but there are indistinct, but present, buffy spots visible on at least one primary, anterior of the primary bar. I'm not sure how variable this character is in extent? Ihaven't been able to find any shots of Common Nighthawk that matches the placement of the primary bar well out from the base of the primaries, and past the tertials?

I can't tell from any of my photos, but the question has been raised about possible primary molt going on, which should indicate Common. I don't think this would account for the shape and placement of the white primary bar, but I'm already getting in over my head. In favor of primary molt, the other primaries do seem to be in much better shape than P10?

This I also can't be sure of, (and couldn't ascertain at the time because of angle), but it appears that the end of the tail comes just to the wingtips, if this isn't some artifact of the photo.
