This bird is here just to show how tricky they can be sometimes. I have seen a few Neotropics in TX, but not very familiar with them. This bird appeared to be too large and not long enough tailed, but I spent a lot of time with it anyway. The reason being the loral region on this bird was always dark, lacking any color. The color looked good for a Neotrop, a nice dark brown on the neck and upper breast. The tail in this photo looks semi-long. But, the bird was as big as some of the DC Cormorants, which eliminates Neotropic.

Jeff verified that this was a different bird than his Neotrop on Sunday. This is a funny Double-crested in a few respects, but not right for a Neotropic either.
