Sheela na gig 0262a

This image is found all over Ireland and Great Britain, and it is not clear what it means. At Kilpeck, some corbels were removed during Victorian times for lewdness, but the sheela was kept. For more information on sheelas, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheela_na_gig.

Fascinating theories at that page you linked.
Most interesting was
1. " ... primordial gate, the mysterious divide between nonlife and life" usually seen on ... gates.

2. Also, the turn around, gender-wise, on the Princess and the frog story.

3. For some cases, there's the theory that their appearance on churches, in grotesque
style, "suggests that they represented female lust as hideous and sinfully corrupting."

I like #1 and #2 theories best though.
