Alabaster sphinx of the New Kingdom 0600

Probably calcite, not alabaster, but in Egypt it's called alabaster.

I love the angle you caught here.

My Nat'l Geo book says it's alabaster and that it weighs 80 tons. How can that be? They
wonder if it was just one in an avenue of sphinxes as in Karnak. They found all these things
when working on the foundation of a new home. Memphis was buried by silt from the Nile over
centuries and Nat'l Geo says you have to wonder what's been lost.- too hard to excavate.
