Need a good haircut badly? – Call the Sanderling PhD. Plus HAS/HANPA meeting info.

As you will see in these photos Sanderlings are great Professional hairDressers. Well, feather dressers but I am sure they can either trim long hair or make a new style on the top of your head. So if you have hippie hair or want to look like a new person they will do a very fast and efficient job. Don’t think feathers were not pulled out, both opponents were working hard on each other’s crown.

The HAS (Houston Audubon Society) and HANPA (Houston Audubon Nature Photography Association) both asked me to speak about photographing bird behavior in October (14 and 21 respectively). Whether you are a birder who is photographing birds or a photographer interested in avian photos, one of these meetings might be of interest to you. As one of the examples I will use photos of the Sanderling fights (HANPA meeting) to explain how anybody, and I mean anybody, can get similar photos (based on the knowledge of this species’ behavior) routinely rather than only a once in a ‘lifetime’ opportunity which is usually missed because one could not predict the action that lasted a second or two and to the human eye looked like a blurry ball moving above the ground. I will even tell you what "trick" to watch for, no kidding, that stimulates the fight between two Sanderlings. http://www.houstonaudubon.org/default.aspx/act/newsletter.aspx/category/Activities/MenuGroup/Home/NewsLetterID/1510/startrow/2.htm http://www.houstonaudubon.org/default.aspx/act/newsletter.aspx/category/Activities/menuitemid/789/MenuGroup/Home/NewsLetterID/1007/startrow/3.htm
