29-OCT-2005
A favourite of mine because it was really my first long exposure moving water attempt.
11-MAY-2014
A fav because it's another great example of the importance of serendipity. I was in the hide waiting for the Kingfisher while hand-holding the big lens shooting Wood Ducks in the sun, and this guy popped out of nowhere. A rare visitor, I was totally unprepared and had to adjust the manual exposure on the fly - very exhilarating.
06-MAY-2014
A favourite because this was part of a great afternoon as a guest of a wonderful wildlife photographer. I learned a lot, mostly that getting great pictures is the result of a lot of hard work.
Thanks Steve Rose.
13-APR-2014
This is a favorite because it illustrates the "luck factor" to a tee. I was tracking another Wood Duck and he swam right under this pair.
14-Mar-2014
This is a fav because I have been trying for years to catch the Snowy Owl migration - finally!!! This shot also piqued my interest in photography again, after a few years of inactivity.
The 1D3 only has single point auto-focus @ f/8, so I was very pleased to see some shots in the sequence that were in focus
Note: No baiting was used in this session. I waited for a good part of an hour lying in a snowbank hoping this guy would do something interesting - never in my wildest dreams did I think he would fly right at me for a vole lying under the snow. My buffer filled before he got there but a fellow photographer got him from the side with his 1DX
30-SEP-2012
This is a fav because it's on our property, and I've been trying for a while to get this guy in flight - this is my first success.
12-OCT-2008

16-JAN-2006

09-OCT-2005
This is a fav because I purchased a new lens (17-40) just for this picture as a follow up to the previous photo.
Nov 10.2002

a favourite because this was my first try at macro
August, 2002
a favourite because this was my my 2nd oldest son Paul, taking a break from paddling to take in the morning scenery
1985
a favourite because this was my first attempt at landscape - I think if I know of the "rule of thirds" 20 years ago I may have included more water in the foreground, but I would have lost the moon unless I could get it's reflection...
Also, today I might also bracket expose this to get a bit of detail in the moon and a darker sky
The red structure on the right doesn't belong, so moving the sail boat to the right third would work too.
a favourite because this was my very first "wow" shots with my new digital SLR (Rebel)
August, 2002
a favourite because this is nice to look at(Thank you Neat Image)
July 2001
a favourite because this photo has many, many things going for it - it was my first realization that non-SLRs can make nice images...
Oct-12-2003
a favourite because this was my first attempt at abstracts
Feb 7.2004
a favourite because this was my first composite stitching of three handheld captures.
Please look at it at it's largest size (original)
August, 2002
a favourite because this was a nice surprise when I uploaded to the pc
March, 2003
a favourite because we built this high atop a foothill in the desert, with the hope of finding it again next year (or the next) - also, it would provide a nice "surprise" to other Canuks that might wander up that foothill someday...
Late September 1986
a favourite because this was one of the last shots taken with my film camera
Oct 2002
a favourite because this was in fla with the o'haras for golf trip
January, 1999
a favourite because this was the first rink I ever built for the boys and they had a few nights of great fun on it,
and because it's the same three boys in the river jacuzzi photo years later.
