Four Homeless Veterans

Four Homeless Veterans
“Robert, Chuck, Mike, and Bob.” Today, Four Homeless Veterans and myself had a chance to meet with an Obama campaign official to talk about homeless veterans issues. We hoped to make this a campaign issue, or at least to call attention to the growing problem. I am so disturbed at the growing number of Veterans on our streets that I can hardly remain civil when I talk about it. Every night 196,000 veterans are on our streets. That number means that one out of every four homeless people in the U.S. are veterans. In my general area it is one out of every three. The Veterans Administration who are there to serve Veterans is overwhelmed and has dropped the ball and is allowing more and more vets to slip through the cracks. Again in my area of Northeastern Pennsylvania there is only one VA. Outreach worker for nineteen counties. That is a very large area and it is crazy to think that only one person can be effective for the number of vets in that large an area. BTW when asked if I support Obama, I said I want a plan and an assurance of action before I would support and candidate. Election years have many candidates all of a sudden interested in things they were never interested in before.
