Christo (born Christo Vladimirov Javacheff, Bulgarian: June 13, 1935) and Jeanne-Claude (born Jeanne-Claude Denat de Guillebon, June 13, 1935 – November 18, 2009) were a married couple who created environmental works of art. Their works include the wrapping of the Reichstag in Berlin and the Pont-Neuf bridge in Paris, the 24-mile (39 km)-long artwork called Running Fence in Sonoma and Marin counties in California, and The Gates in New York City's Central Park.
The purpose of their art, they contend, is simply to create works of art or joy and beauty and to create new ways of seeing familiar landscapes.

There are many reasons to be drawn to the works of these two artists. In my case the primary reason is the beauty. There is also a massive scale and complex processes to the completion of a work. It takes many people and complex technologies to propose the work and bring it to fruition. I first knew of their work via media. Documentary films, magazine and newspaper articles have spread their work in the public consciousness for years. I finally had the chance to experience one of their works titled “The Gates,” firsthand in Central Park, NYC, in 2005. It was magical, and has kept my interest high in environmental art.
The photo here evokes that feeling of something being concealed or wrapped as in Christo and Jenne-Claudes own work. The mystery of covering something adds a subliminal drama to an object. I read somewhere that Christo said something to the effect of, it doesn’t matter how good the cookie tastes as long as the package is appealing.
