On the streets of Philadelphia.

A while back I was working the streets of Philadelphia with my camera. I was walking down an alley in center city and this gentleman spotted me and noticed my camera. “Hey take my picture” he called out, and me not ever one to refuse an opportunity for a photo said, “sure.” He then proceeded to take off his shirt, and go through a bunch of muscle type poses. I thought to myself, “wow this is great!” I finished taking a bunch of pictures and thanked him. I was all ready to walk off down the alley and then he said, “now give me my money.” Hu? We didn’t agree to exchange money. He said again “now give me my money.” I said, “no way,” and he proceeded to put me into a massive headlock. We waltzed around the alley for a while, as I’m now thinking to myself, “Gee, I’m going to die here in this god forsaken alley. They’ll never find my body, and this is gonna hurt. In a moment of terror or inspiration I reached into my pocket, while still in a headlock, and found a dollar bill. I held it out at arms length away from me. This guy seemed genuinely surprised and reached out quickly in the direction of the bill in space. I didn’t hesitate for a split second and went the other way; away form him and the dollar bill. My heart was pounding and can’t begin to tell you how relived I was to have gotten away intact. I still shudder each time I come across this picture. I guess you never know what it will take to get that next “great” photo.
