I noticed Harold’s Airborne Cap one day during the Carnival set up week. I asked him about his Military background and he told me he was an Army Airborne Veteran. The Carnival is the only place he has. I asked him if I could take his picture and he graciously consented. We chatted off and on over most of the first week as the Fair got closer and closer. I met a gentleman that was working on a video for a National church group. He hopes to shed light on Carnival workers to show some of the social problems related to working in the carnival industry. The church group would be asked to help with clothes and food if the show came to their town. I asked Harold if he might speak to them and he agreed. When we arrived for the interview and photo shoot, Harold was cleaned up and wearing his uniform. Harold knew how I feel about Veterans and related issues such as Homelessness. He said, “I am homeless” I think these photos side by side speak volumes. He has medals on his chest. Harold I salute you! Next time you take a visit to a Fair or Amusement park you might wonder who is that person running that thrill ride. My eyes were really opened during these two weeks of shooting.
