Judging by the wound and all the scrapes around the belly this Zebra put up quite a fight. Poor thing,, and it will undoubtedly pose a threat to the entire group of Zebra's. The wound almost looks man inflicted to me, but I doubt it. However I do wonder what kind of animal did this.

Incredible view of life in the wild. Although this is gruesome, nature will limit the suffering if a predator ends her life. I have seen dogs with tight collars left by uncaring owners that can cause similar wounds, so maybe it is all in the point of view. Voted.

Cesar, Thanks for the visit to my Albums and your comment, its a very difficult situation around the Mkhuze National Park, there is rank poverty, AIDS, and very high unemployment. Does that give the poacher the right to snare animals for food? Under the same circumstances I THINK I would, after all what is the moral difference of some wealthy American or German hunter coming to South Africa to kill Lions etc just for the fun of it.........

I hate those guys!!! In central-east African countries like Tanzania and Kenya they now have very tight security in their parks and very harsh penalties for the poachers.
This zebra is likely to fall to predators in the next few weeks mostly because is weak as a result of blood loss, the stress of the wound and possible infection. Predators will easily recognize her as a "weak" individual in the group and she will be the target. However, If she can make it pass three weeks without the wound getting infected, she may have a good chance.

Marc

Doubt it very much. Looking at the loss of blood for one, then the problem of the smell of blood attracting all sorts of big cats and Hyaena

THANKS FOR STOPPING BY

Would the animal make it through such an injury?
