Petersburg does not have an ice rink, except when it gets cold enough, long enough for the muskeg pond to freeze over. And even then, it can't have snowed too much beforehand. The conditions were met this week with temps dropping into the teens and staying there for several days, and the skies were clear with only a small dusting of snow right as the cold was coming in.
These photos were taken by Elise. I was very surprised that these turned out because the light was fading and shutter speeds were getting very, very slow (see EXIF data).
Neat set of photos. You have to skate at least once in your life to truly appreciate what those folks can do in the Olympics. I like the hue in the sky here. Must have been a nice evening. Cheers, Ron
