I love the joyful, bright colours of gerbera flowers. This flower in particular caught my eye because of the lovely contrast between the red petals and yellow centre. I tried photographing the flower with some of its out of focus neighbours, but the compositions looked a little messy. I then tried a piece of green card as a background and (to my eye at least) the composition came together.

Shot with a Canon 60mm macro lens. A macro LED ring light gave me nice even lighting and gave a boost to the colours. Only post-processing (in Photoshop CS5) was a tweak of the saturation and an s-curve boost, plus some final sharpening.
