This wood is so far along in the spalting that I had worries about it staying together long enough to complete. I needed to stop often to stabilize the many checks and cracks. Razor sharp tools were needed to avoid tearing the weakened wood. It's finished with a poly-acrylic sealer/top coat. I thought it important to use something that would soak into the wood, for strength. It seems solid, and I've used it, so I guess my method worked.
(It's lack of weight is a bit startling)
