Pecan aka Hickory

The two woods, Pecan and Hickory are so closely related that lumber dealers make no distinction. It's usually labeled Hickory/Pecan.
This is salvage wood from Edenton, NC., harvested by cousin Frederick.
The turning block was made by laminating three layers of 8/4 (2 inch)stock.
As one might guess, working this tough wood was, well, tough. It's been working well as a salad bowl or a fruit bowl, as long as you have a lot of fruit. The bowl is quite voluminous, so apples tend to disappear.
