H&C and USDA give 3 varieties.
var. nesioticum: Smooth leaves coastal islands of San Juan
var. rupicolum: leaves finely papillate, found chiefly in Wenatchee Mtn.
var. lanceolatum: linear to linear lanceolate leaves, not strongly incurved. Throughout range.

found in dry areas, mostly rocks, lithosol soils, from sea-level to alpine.
