Minuartia nuttallii

Common Names: Nuttall's Sandwort, Brittle Stitchwort

(syn. Arenaria nuttallii)

USDA lists 4 subspecies of which only 2 are found in WA.
ssp. nuttallii: Leaves are ascending or strict.
ssp. fragilis: 4 inches. Leaves are arcuate or squarrose. shorter, thicker hairs
on plant than ssp. nuttallii.

Flower stems are brittle, generally shattering at nodes. petals a bit longer than
calyx, 10 stamens, 3 styles. Grows in shrub-steppe from low to high elevations,
on gravelly benches or talus.
