Angoville Au Plain church

Angoville-du-Plain, Normandy, France

a small church where two medics tended tended more than 75
injured of both sides without any difference, for those who
showed up at the door, they had to obey to one rule set by the two medics;
the weapons had to be left outside.

Robert Wright and Kenneth Moore would manage the makeshift field hospital for three days.
On the second day two Germans came down from the Bell Tower of the church
and indicated they wanted to surrender. The medics had no idea that there
had been armed soldiers in the Angoville au Plain church !

Along with wounded soldiers they tended a young girl who
nows lives across the street and tends the church.

Within the church is a blood-stained pew, a broken tile from a dude bomb which
feel through the roof and several stained-glass windows commemorating the airborne
troops and the two medics.

11th/12th century church modified in 15th century :
wooden vaulted nave, sculpted capitals, remains of stone sculpted
to represent fish bones, furniture dating from end of 16th century
to beginning of 19th century, 17th and 18th century statues. Cemetery cross.
