Helenium amarum

Common Names: Sneezeweed, Yellowdicks, Yellow Sneezeweed, Fiveleaf Sneezeweed, and Bitter Sneezeweed

USDA and ITIS list two varieties.
var. amarum: found throughout SE, TX and CA; disc corollas yellow to yellow-brown distally
var. badium: found TX, OK; disc corollas purple distally

Note bush like, multi branched, simple, sessile, grass like leaves with multitude of yellow composite flowers with 5-10, three lobed petals (ray-florets). A weed that grows in disturbed soils.
