This could be anywhere..

The most exciting thing I did today was to go grocery shopping in the nearby town of Newry.
As I left the carpark, I was struck by the blandness of the architecture.
There was nothing to indicate that it was in Ireland (even though a minority of Newry citizens would argue they are in the UK).
It's same bland style of retail outlets to be found anywhere with nothing to distinguish it.
In fact a row of old buildings, one of which had been livery stables, was demolished to make way for the new Lidl, even though a nearby shopping centre is half empty.

Totally agree Margaret, it's the same here in the UK too, every high street just looks the same now...how sad

You are right. So much architecture is without any character.

lets make that STORES and not stotes :)

By the full carpark I would say it is a popular shopping venue, We may not have Sainsbury's in the antipodes but I can name 4 huge chainsotes that we have instead :)

Well, anywhere in Great Britain maybe; the side of the road that the cars are on give it away. Granted there are other places that drive on that side, and we haven't had a great run of sunny weather over the last couple of years, but you won't find any bloody Sainsbury's in the antipodes, mate.

Definitely looks like anywhere

I wouldn’t have guessed it either. The suburbanization of everything takes away an area’s uniqueness. V

Such a shame to destroy all the old buildings that give character to a town or city to make way for these boring buildings that absolutely won’t stand the test of time…Old towns are the best and the planners should wake up to what they are destroying…nice shot of your could be anywhere town Margaret….BV

I agree with your comment !By means of standardization Western cities no longer look like nothing !

An interesting observation and spot on. You rarely see any unique architecture in these retail outlets.

Yes, it could be any town with its lack of distinctive character. I do light the cool light contrasting with the lit signage though. v

I'd never guess that was Ireland if I didn't know you lived there!

indeed, few signs here that would distinguish Ireland...corporate powers do tend to homogenize buildings, and entire cities...
