Old and new

This wasn't the photo I had in mind when I went to the harbour today.
I was thinking birds, boats, landscape.
But as I turned round, I saw the sun shining through the windows of this Celtic Tiger office block with the centuries old castle in the background, and knew that it was today's photo.

Spot on. Everything about this tells a story. The shadow of history represented by the castle's silhouette; a reminder that things which are built on substance last. The bareness of the tree representing the crash of the Celtic Tiger years. The greenish glow in the empty windows representing a toxicity that caused the building to be effectively abandoned. And yet the warm glow of the sun suggesting that a rebirth is possible, as long as its basis is as solid as history's and not based on quantitative easing and denial of reality. Sometimes the best shots just drop into your lap like that.
