A Small Shop

Small shops like this were once commonplace in Ireland. Operating from the front room of a house, they sold essentials like tea, sugar, newspapers and sweets.
This one is in the village of Carlingford in north Co Louth.

Great shot. A good thing you still see these little shops all over Ireland; they're disappearing everywhere else.

Love these little shops. They always have the best of the local items. V

Wonderful to see this small survivor. So nice with this lighting coming from the shop. "V"

It's good to see one of them surviving. Many here in Devon are closing as people travel to the large supermarkets - such a shame.

We used to have one like this in our town in London when I was little, the mans cat used to sit on the counter, and you darent stroke it, he'd go for your eyes...Love this shot

That would be great to have as a photography studio...hmmmm...gives me some ideas. Love the house/shop. Love the light. Well done!

Charming. Now that is a convenience store. V

Hey this is clever, the repeat of the warm light indoors and the yellow door really balances the shot
Carl Carbone25-Nov-2011 04:53
I so prefer this to the "big box" stores. Nicely documented.

Interesting that you can just open a shop in your house. No signs, no advertising. Just come on in.
Sheila25-Nov-2011 03:18
Love the open door with the light spilling out, and I like the next door's complimentary colour!

Simplicity has a lot of appeal to me these days --- especially when we are so overwhelmed with mammoth corporations, huge shopping malls, and never-ending technology. This image has a definite calming effect.
Yvonne24-Nov-2011 23:08
No need for fancy signs, the locals know its a "shop"!
lou_rozensteins24-Nov-2011 22:58
Love the composition and the colour. How the concept of a "shop" has changed ....

Packed to the rafters no doubt...better than a supermarket!!
