Mirror Mirror on the wall

Even though it's very early in the New Year I've been pondering the wisdom of
continuing my PAD. It's dark when I get up in the mornings, dark when I get
out from work in the evenings, and there hasn't been much brightness during
the day either. It's a struggle to get a halfway decent image every day, especially
as I haven't mastered the sort of lighting techniques which can turn the mundane
into something quite wonderful.
And then, to further complicate matters, I like to accompany my pic with some
text, to link the image with words.
This image hasn't got a story. Other than it was taken in the ladies of the
restaurant where I met a friend for lunch. But I like it.

Yes it's a tough time of year for photos but think of the growth that you can make with your photography during this time by challenging yourself. Find some websites that offer challenges and ideas to try out. It's your PAD - do what you have to do.

PADding is hard work during the dark winter months, but I have to agree with Stewart, David and all the others - we all have bad days or weeks even, but your pics and narrative really are unique and special and I look forward to seeing your posts everyday. You can't leave us in the lurch, especially with the longer nights of spring (and summer of course) quite literally just round the corner!! BTW, this is a grand shot, you've caught this perfectly... :o))

But we enjoy your daily presence, it's like our daily bread, so do not put us into poverty:) This shot is simply brilliant, the lady is a charm and the mixing of round and angled is so stunning. BV

You may not believe it yourself Mairead, but you do have the knack of turning the mundane into the memorable....and this is a sublime example!! We all "hit the wall" from time to time and it never seems any easier to get around it....but just keep doing what you do, it just works :)

It´s hard to find inspiration for PAD this dark time of year. And I´m forced to use my iPhone due to the "hand in cast for at least another month" problem.
Planning to buy some flowers and set up for some stilleben photography in natural lights, with camera on tripod and using my new (unused!) Lensbaby-equipment. Might work one-handed. And withering flowers are beautiful, I should have fun with them for at least a week ;o)
I don´t take PAD very seriously, but don´t want to quitcompletely. It´s more PEOD now (pic every other day or so)

well observed and expertly portrayed..it is difficult to come up with fresh images during winter's limited light and adverse weather...don't let it be a negative pressure though, daily posts should not be an obligation...your many pbase friends will not forget you overnight for missing a day or two here and there....V

A wonderfully intriguing image. I've had similar thoughts myself. The best part of this activity is that it makes you look!

I like it a lot too, and though I don't normally say it, V. It's a very clever use of the available light.
Don't forget that part of the challenge is *learning* those lighting techniques; experimenting, playing, seeing what works, and being unconcerned when you hit the mundane. There ain't *no-one* who can PAD and hit 365 excellent shots out of 365. As Robert Doisneau said, "If I knew how to take a good photograph, I'd do it every time". I think he may have been a PADer. 8^>

This is really a clever image and I like it a lot. I think you are very brave to even attempt a PAD. I don't think I could do it.
Frank Brault12-Jan-2011 23:17
Don't stop your PAD! This is a terrific image, I love the balance of this composition the reflection and the graphics. The conversion is excellent too.

Gor blimey - you've got to carry on if you're brave enough to take your camera into the loo! :o)

I like this, great reflections of the picture and the light on the mirror, it will soon be spring, keep that thought. v

The tiles gave away the location!

A great spot and I share your thoughts on the PAD at this time of year!
Noël12-Jan-2011 21:15
I hope you don't give up on your PAD although I can appreciate your problems and I certainly don't think I could manage a PAD. Your photos are always good and the text very interesting. So, if you do pack up, thanks very much for the pleasure you have given in the past.
