The Dogs

This photo shows the dogs or ears inside the thru-hull that allow the slot on the step wrench to grab hold and break it free or tighten it.

Be careful--the dogs on the newer Groco thru-hulls are very fragile and will shear off with any substantial torque on the thru-hull wrench
