Yes this field was plenty deep ;-) How true about the long hot days, this was taken right at the beginning of a long dry spell...the farmers around here almost lost their crops, but it rained in the nick of time. In Fact this is a conservation area, and a week or so after this was taken the DNR was out with the mowers and mowed it down (in case it caught fire I guess)...that's the trouble...they have to mow the prairies in built up areas to keep them prairies, where fire used to do the job for them. Southern Wisconsin used to be predominantly prairies, until the roads and houses stopped the fires, and trees and forests sprouted up, which the farmers cut down. Now the state and some others are trying to restore areas of prairie. Funny what people do to the natural process.

Nice shot, I like the colors of this. Shows a touch of that burnt out look we get when the days get so long, and hot.
