My great grandfather was Charles T Peterson and opened the general store in 1903? and post office. I saw somewhere that he staked claims and helped plat out the area as Nighthawk Realty. He was later listed as mine manager. I would love it if anyone had any more info. I think I remember hearing he lost everything and committed suicide in 1928. No one ever talked about it so I don't know if that is what really happened or not. my email is cheryls173@hotmail.com.

I have stock certificate for Hope Mining Co. issued on 1915. It says it was in Nighthawk but can't finf anything about it on internet. Merry Christmas all.

I own stock in the old Kaaba Texas Mining Company. Not worth anything but a great conversation piece.

I own the 33 acres at the west junction of the road that leads to the border crossing, across from the Dagnon property. Met a number of times with Joe Lenton and enjoyed his memories of mining on my property. Bought it in the early 70's from George Mosher who dug a shaft in his old cabin 60 ft.down and found some color..Cabin has fallen in and shaft is covered.. In recent years I found a grave yard with about 15 graves and asked the BLM to fence it off as maybe Okanogan Smith is buried there..That has been done. Would love to talk with you "old-Timers" for more insight into the many mines that dot the area. Rob & Donna Stone now lives in Joe Lentons old service station building is has written great articles of the area. Please share any printed stories of the area.

my folks bought the store /post office in 1976 and running it for close to ten years then selling it to austin lentons brother joe.i spent a couple of my teen years there nd remember my dad paul doing spring roundup with the lenton family and also the cutchie family on the other side of little chopaka mtn.i try to make it up there every so often,very beautiful place with alot of good memories

Nighthawk featured in a short story decades back as that perfect place that is very near, but very hard to find. A place where nothing changes but nothing stagnates. I guess that isn't true, judging from the pictures here. But Nighthawk is an icon in my mind anyway.

My ex-brother in-law (Jim Washburn) lived in Nighthawk in the late 70's/early 80's on leased railroad land...right on the river. We visited him several times and toured the area quite abit. I went on a cattle drive to take about 200 head of cattle up to their summer range.

Hi. Great pictures! My grandpa was Austin Lenton. He died in Nighthawk in 1981. My parents bought the store and lived there until my dad died in 1997. I've kept the cabin south? of the bridge. I was just looking around for ideas- they raised my taxes 843% on the "river front" piece this year! I share feelings for this area. We spent every Thanksgiving and parts of every summer in Nighthawk! Elaine

my grandparents lived in nighthawk wanted to know any would if their house was still standing also this is all private property right so you cant go take pics or anything right my grandparents where arthur and betty hougardy

i actually live near here. Every summer, I go and help some friends bring in some cattle that has remains of an old house and half of what was once a barn. There is only 1 small section of fence left.

I use to own the Original Nighthawk School House and adjacent property along the river. My grandfather was one of the original owners of the mine you talk about. You might want to update the name from Kaana-Texas to the correct name of Kaaba-Texas, which was owned by Silver Star, then them dang EPA people came and caused us all some big trouble with the toxic waste clean up. This is really cool. My folks rented the old ill repute house and we lived there while my dad worked at the mine. He ran the lift that put the miners in and out of the mine. My sisters and I went to school there. Neat pictures. Pat
