Old Mill Town 10 Miles Up Entiat Valley. Mill Closed Around 1978 , But This Peaceful Town Still Hangs On. Cooper's Store IS The Main Hub Of The Town Where Locals Can Pick Up Their Mail At Post Office Located IN Store Or Get A Great Burger At The Cooper Cafe Located In The Store As Wwell. Snowmobilers Can Ride Their Sled Right Up To The Pump In Winter. Awesome Place In Small Town America!!!

Anyone remember my brother William/Bill "Pete" Steele? He lived in Ardenvoir, but I'm not sure for how long. He worked with the Forest Service clearing trails, and such. He loved the mountains, fishing and camping. On his days off he enjoyed doing genealogy, typing letters to a woman in the Bourbon County Courthouse in Kentucky. He typed the letters with a piece of carbon paper so he could keep a copy and mail the other one. She would write back, so he had a fantastic correspondence with her, then another woman (a "cousin")in Iowa who he located during this time. I have these letters in a big 3-ring binder. He is the one person who inspired my interest in pursuing the Steele family history. He died there in January, 1977. If anyone knew him please contact me at steel75642@aol.com. I'd love to hear your stories.

My dad worked at the Ardenvoir mill in his early teens, back in the early 1940's before joining the Navy in 1945. David R. Morrell (married to my dad's sister Aileen) worked and lived there too with their 4 kids, Rick, Christine, Cynthia and Randi. My dad's parents (Daisy and Lester Arnold) moved down the road to Wenatchee and my dad settled in San Diego in the 1950's. Grandpa Lester worked as a millwright at the Alcoa factory and passed away in 1984 (I think) a year or so after Grandma Daisy passed in 1983. Aunt Aileen still lives up somewhere near Entiat. Her second husband Ken Ferguson (from Wenatchee Chelan) passed away a while back. My dad's last desire was to revisit his youth in Ardenvoir, but alas, the ravages of Alzheimer's disease have robbed him of so many memories.

I had many great memories of fly fishing with my brother, dad, and Uncle Dave on the Mad River. Ice skating on a frozen pond and having the local beaver pound the ice with their tails...driving past Lincoln Rock on the way down to Wenatchee. I guess I'll have to remember for my dad.
