Washington Monument

Located on South Mountain beteween Frederick and Hagarstown, Maryland.
Built originally by the people of the nearby town of Boonsboro in 1827,
it was used by Union signal corps troops in the Civil War and has been
rebuilt a couple of times, most recently in 1934-36 by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
It became a state and national historical monument in 1972.

It stands 34 feet high on Monument Knob, which itself has a height of 1550 feet above
sea level. The base of the tower has a circumference of 54 feet.
