In Constitution Park in Castries, across from the Town Hall, is a statue of
Sir John George Melvin Compton who helped St. Lucia gain it's freedom from British rule in 1979.
He served as prime minister of St. Lucia for many years. Born in 1925, he died in 2007.
The flag for St. Lucia can be seen over the statue's shoulder.
