Anacapa

Galveston Island. Texas

The Anacapa was built by the Pullman Company in 1929 for John Palmer Gavit, the editor of the Washington Evening Post.
Gavit used it as a private railcar, and hosted noted dignitaries including Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Sir Winston Churchill.

I was driving along and saw this parked at the railroad crossing near the Galveston Railroad Museum.

With the historical significance, this should be getting restored. What a neat fine,
and so nicely photographed.

It has had an illustrious history then, so it seems sad to see it now like this! Great photo of it and good explanation. V

Gavit certainly traveled in style, necessary to hobnob with politicians...admire your choice of angled POV to imbue the old car with a whisper of dynamism..

Ah, remember the days when newspapers made enough money that editors could afford their own railcars, and when the articles that they wrote had accuracy rather than clickbait as their main driver? Yes, I remember the first one too.
