Wildflowers and Gravestones

Galveston Historic Cemetery District, Texas

A shady corner in the Episcopal Cemetery.
Some of the most famous citizens of Galveston and Texas are laid to rest in the Cemetery district.
There are about 12,000 grave markers visible, but that figure is believed to be just a fraction of the number of bodies buried in the group of seven cemeteries.
The cemeteries have suffered through many hurricanes and been raised two or three times in areas after flooding from storms. Each time they were raised, some gravestones were lost or buried.
The plots were re-sold and new graves created over the old ones.

It’s sad to hear that so many headstones were lost. The beautiful flowers are well captured. V
