It took a huge effort for him to tear himself away from the large heap of papers that had to be layed out by Wednesday. He had been diligently and systematically working his way through the pages that had been returned from the copy-editor, and had spent a wonderful four hours redrawing a number of graphs and tables. It took a huge effort for him to save the files and close the programs in order to do something else (to work on an image, drink, eat and, finally, sleep). He consoled himself with the fact that the work would be waiting for him in the morning - the added bonus being that the absolutely unrealistic deadline would be even closer! 'O, joy!' he thought!
