Another year older today. Hottest day of the year so far... oppressively hot. Went to my little nephew's First Communion in the morning before making my excuses and leaving for home straight after church. I did intend to watch the Holland v. Serbia and Montenegro game this afternoon, but it was far too hot to sit in the house watching footie on the telly, so I fell asleep on the couch instead (a sure sign of advancing years!). Later on I decided to head out of town. I dropped Liam off at the park where he was meeting some friends for a kick about - I went to Tayport. I spent a couple of hours wandering about the harbour, admiring both the yachts and the newest additions to Dundee's skyline - the large wind turbines that generate power for the Michelin factory. I know that there is currently a huge polemic about the siting of wind turbines, but I actually think that they look beautifully graceful - although I do admit that I might be of a different opinion if one suddenly appeared at the bottom of my garden! Anyway, I was back home in time for my birthday supper (Linda actually managed to track down picanha!) before taking my place in front of the TV for the Angola vs. Portugal game, which Portugal won (unconvincingly, it must be said). All in all, a good way to mark the end of my 42nd year.
Today's results:
Serbia & Montenegro 0 - 1 Netherlands
Mexico 1 - 0 Iran
Angola 0 - 1 Portugal
