Sensor Cleaning

Here are the results of my first attempt at cleaning the sensor on my 20D after 18 months of ownership. I am a frequent lens changer. To clean I used Eclipse and their sensor swabs (type 2 for the 20D). The cost at Thompson Photo here in Knoxville was $62 for one bottle of Eclipse and 12 sensor swabs.

For the image called after 1st clean I went from left to right, fliped the swab over and then from right to left. And repeated, a total of four strokes. Before I began swabbing I placed three drops on each side (tip) of the swab. The amount of pressure I used was enough to put a slight bend in the sensor swab stick.

Hmmm... we've been using medical swabs and 91% iso. alcohol since 2002 without a hitch. We are also frequent lens changers. The sensor polishes up clean as a whistle! no muss, no fuss, no haze and we haven't spent $10 on cleaning supplies for two pro cameras. I'm thinking that people are afraid to clean their sensors, focus screen(s), etc.?? Seriously speaking, have we been missing something by not using the retail swabs?

I think I paid $40 for the sensor swab device, 100 swabs and a bottle of eclpise from the guy on pbase, I cant go more than 2 weeks without a cleaning and even then sometimes there are still dust spots. I would say the dust spots are the most annoying part of dslr photography, hope that they figure out a solution to that soon, in the meantime, swab away!
