This site was Nutts farm when my family had caravans there from the mid 60s to 1990. Our caravan would have right done the end of this picture, the third caravan along, right at the front with a sea view. When our caravan was there at the end again a wall was built, behind that wall was chalets. Myself, my two brothers and dad revisited Leysdown in 2020. Nutts farm had changed, the shop near the entrance gate had gone, there was cabins instead of caravans, with verandas on the cabins or holiday homes. Past Nutts farm there was tiny holiday huts overlooking the sea. Leysdown was a good time to spend my six weeks holiday, we would bump into familiar faces. Most my relatives had caravans and chalets there. On the chalet site a five minute walk away from Nutts farm we would all enjoy a Saturday night at the sight club. Typical seventies entertainment…fantastic! As someone mentioned the saveloy, faggot and pease pudding which I think was a little window served kiosk. Had a little friend Claire a couple of caravans over who I couldn’t wait to see again for the six weeks. Also remember the infamous 1987 hurricane, the news showed the caravans from our site ripped apart with some in the sea. We was expecting the very worst when going to inspect the damage even if we had a caravan left after the destruction. Remember, we was at the very front overlooking the sea, we thought our caravan must have been in that sea. When we got their we were in absolute shock…our caravan was still on its concrete plot totally un damaged. By that time we had stopped going for holidays there, my siblings were much older and I preferred to stay home and knock around with my mates and of course girls. I only ever spent two more nights in our old caravan before it was finally sold on and the plot given up as nobody used anymore. But great times indeed, seems so long ago now. Will never get them wonderful days back obviously…but as long as I have the photos and memories I will have Nutts farm and Leysdown in my heart…Thank you for your pictures on your site as it not only brings back happy memories it also shows how others celebrate a good old fashioned Kent coast holiday that was a part of so many good times with my family.
