Sorry you missed it Graham, a great wee line. Mr Groom was the Porter at Leysdown at time of closure and during the WWII it was Audrey Hardman. (BB)

1946 to 1950: Happy childhood holidays staying with aunt and uncle who lived on Halfway Road, very close to the level crossing at Sheerness East station. The train journey to Leysdown always an adventure. Deck chairs and picnic hamper always taken with us. Tickets issued and clipped by the conductor/guard who also had the job of opening and closing the many level crossing gates. The little railway had a charm and a romance all its own. We used to get off the train at Leysdown and my mother and father would take me for a walk to Warden point and back to the beach where uncle and aunt would have our picnic lunch ready.

The Sheppey Light Railway. Ran from 1901 to 1950. I remember the trackbed very well, but regret not being able to ride it. I was only six months old when it closed!
