I remember the old bridge very well. We lived on Sheppey for years before moving to Bobbing, so used the bridge regularly to visit family.I used to take the train every day to school in Sittingbourne between 1947 and 1951. My uncle was Bob Grimer who ran the M&D Bus Company for many years and most of my family worked there. My mother was a "clippie" during the war and my brother and sister worked at Sheerness East depot. The bridge used to break down quite a lot.

Is there any photos of the bridge before the four pillar concrete bridge showing the bridge up. Did the bridge open up from both sides or just one side ???? Have been looking to remind myself of what it looked like.

Maidstone & District coach WKM362, Fleet Number CO362. This vehicle was working in the Sheppey area from 1958 and the new bridge opened in March 1960, so this suggests that this photograph was taken sometime between these dates, and as the new bridge appears to be under construction (pillar on far right?) a date of around 1959 seems likely. Respect to Robert Pitt for taking the photograph and thanks to Andy Finn for sharing.

Depending on the year this was taken, I might have been on this coach.
