Hi My Dad used to work here was there till the factory shut down. His name was James Aaron ( most people knew him as Jim or Jimbo ) he worked in the garage fixing all the forklifts. would be great if anyone had any photos or info on him as he is no longer with us.

I grew up in Kent and spent a few fond holiday's in Sheppey, I still have friends there now. I moved to Hertfordshire many years ago now and today, on walk through the fields of Tring I stumble across a few pieces of glass that seemed to have been buried and had became exposed as the land slipped down the hill. There were lots of fragments and a few old fizzy pop bottles but one bottle caught my eye. The neck was nearly as wide as the bottle itself and it had some nice raised detail around the top and bottom. I picked it up, brought it home. Upon cleaning I noticed it had "329 CTG 8" intrigued I took to google, a few clicks later and I find out I have a Sheppey bottle! Will be a prize possession now!

Hi this is the first time I have seen this site its 03.50 cant sleep so I thought I would have a look to see what this site is all about, and low and behold I find my name being asked about ? so Darren if you still read this site I am Victor Pilkington ex of Canning town glass I keep checking this page in case you do respond ,as you already know I worked down the hot end in the batch dept. God that was really hard work I well remember guys used to stand on the gantry above in front of number three furnace and walk away wondering how the hell we did our job , on the set I worked on there was Peter Scanland, myself, Tubby Ward, Ginger Bundock, Peter Fisher & Bert who's surname slips for now as time went on there were a few name changes But I do remember Dave Jacobs but I am not to sure if he worked on our set or just did as so many of us did ( when we could ) overtime , sorry Dave if you happen to see this and you were a permanent member of D set So Darren if you do read this I am on F/B to all who worked there yes mostly great memories ,

Went there on a school trip sometime in the early to mid sixties. Remember it was very noisy.

HI Trevor its Sharon thank you for putting together all the pictures of the bottle works its a fantastic trip down memory lane. I also have lots of fond memories it was a very noisy and hot dirty and dusty place to work but it was a real lovely place because of the cross section of really lovely characters and people made it so special we all miss it to this day. Perhaps a reunion would be a great Idea thanks again for all your hard work in compiling the photos. Those were the days.

Hello Trevor, I think your photo website is great, it is such a good resource. I'm particularly interested in all things related to Sheppey, and I live in Warden Bay. I am doing an Art project about Sheppey identity, and I was wondering if you would mind me using some of your photos as part of the project. For example, I am doing a piece about the history of the Bottle Works in Queenborough. Hope this is OK. Jo in Warden Bay.

I worked at the Bottle Works in the 1950's this just shows how it changed befor it finally closed. I did not recognize any of the internal pictures.

Hi,I collect old bottles from Sheppey. I have two bottles that were produced when the bottle works closed,a green wine with smiley and sad faces and a milk bottle saying Last one.Do you know of any others that were produced at the end.I would love to give them a good home !!! john@jjanman.freeserve.co.uk

I used to walk to school past the bottleworks. There was a man who worked at a machine by a window. Every day we used to shout, "What's the time?" He said " Half past nine!" We said " Hang your breeches on the line" Hmmmm........
