The Finished Product

Here is the RS-80N3 with the 3.5mm stereo plug and jack installed. Normally,
I'm just using it in it's original 3 foot length. When I need to get farther
away from the camera, I just plug my in 25 foot cable. Since these cables are
fairly inexpensive, you could buy several different lengths if you want, you just
need to make sure they have the 3.5mm stereo plug on one end and the matching
jack on the other.

I will be doing this as soon as I get the necessary pieces. As to cutting into a Canon cable, why not?? It's only a wire and as long as you don't cut it too close, there won't be significant heat transfer to concern yourself with when making the extension.

Nice. I think I'll buy a $13 compatible remote and snip that rather than my Canon remote.
