The Spanky Paine

Homer, Alaska

This is the Spanky Paine. It is a derelict ship that has been abandoned in the harbor at Homer, Alaska. The tug was built in 1894 and its last known service was a contract to assist with the clean up of the Exxon Valdez oil spill. If you'd like to know more about her, here's a story that appeared in the Homer Tribune in September, 2008. http://www.homertribune.com/archive.php?aid=3293

I hope this old tug may see preservation rather than the breakers. What a rich history captured for all time.

What a great old boat. Taken at a really excellent angle to show her off. Nice job. Vote :)

A lot of character captured in this frame Dick.

Lovely old vessel. I like the composition, but the lower right hand corner needs some cloning, I think.

What a neat picture. The water looks so blue, I'm amazed. Great image
