The Salmon Trinity Alps Wilderness

The Trinity Alps Wilderness in northern California has some of the most spectacular and remote natural environments in America. Much of it has rarely been seen by people even today due to the rugged topography. There are deep glacial lakes in amphitheaters of granite, deep old growth forests that have never been seen by man, a gold mining history from the late 1800s, and legends of Bigfoot that keep the wilderness spirit alive and fresh for those that dare to adventure here.

I visited Trinity River at Hyampom with my family in the 1950's. I recall a flat rock in the middle of the river that my brother and I accessed by air mattress. Any idea where this is on the river ?

Mr. Burton: I stumbled upon these photos, the miracle of Google. Anyway, I worked as a Wilderness Ranger for five years in the Trinity Alps (Weaverville Ranger District) in the late 70's and early 80's. Let me just say your photos brought tears to my eyes. The Trinity Alps were my home for many, many days and nights. Thank you so much for making your photos available to see.

Exceptional photos -- exceptional and inspirational gallery!! Makes me want to grab my backpack and head out the door! I've been backpacking the Trinity Alps -- as well as the Marble Mountains -- since the early '80s -- the thrill never diminishes.

Great Pictures. i have traveled to the Trinity Alps every year for about 35 years now and love it. There is no place like it in the world. These are some great pictures of some of the great lakes, but still are nothing like being there. I can't wait to go back in August. I'll try and post some of my pics here.

Deems, just what i was looking for...routes to the high, hard-to-get-to lakes in the Trinity's. Outstanding photos. I almost dont need to go now because I've seen it all thru your lens. I plan on following some of your routes this summer 08. Thanks for posting this stuff

Deems, As usual magnificant photos. For those who don't know you are the ultimate source of information about the Trinitys. Is that photo of Wedding Cake Peak from a meadow west of Kalmia Lake with Thompson Peak to the right center, or am I lost as usual. Anxiously waiting for more, your Oklahoma buddy Keith
