An nearly perfect example of using negative space to create meaning, Lisbeth. Every coot but two are floating freely in their own space. One of them is not floating at all, but instead dominates the image as a focal point. The only missed opportunity in negative space here is on the right hand edge. The coot that is half in and half out of the picture does not float freely and thus does not fit the rest of the image. If you had been able to create negative space between its tail and the right hand edge, you would have created edge tension as well.
