Our last day in Russia ... and some 2 hours away, although only 85 miles distant, to the NE of Moscow, and on what turned out to be a rainy morning, we made our "pilgrimage" to the Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius. Founded around 1345 by Sergius of Radonezh, whose piety attracted many pilgrims, the Trinity Monastery is one of Russia's most important religious and pilgrimage centres...its stunning churches, grouped around the spectacular Cathedral of the Assumption, are among the most beautiful in Russia...these are the Church of St. Sergius and Refectory, and the Trinity Cathedral...with stunning exteriors and dazzling interiors...which more than made up for the grey and wet skies...!!
